Hi! I'm Morwenna, otherwise known as 'Mo'. Currently I work as a post-doc researcher in the Wood Science group of the School of Agricultural and Forest Sciences in the University of Wales Bangor looking at wood preservation and heat treatment of timber. We are developing environmentally friendly preservatives based on natural oils and resins, for wood used in exterior applications.
I gained my PhD studying materials science. The research looked into the compatibilisation of natural fibres and polypropylene, for the BioComposites Centre. I hold a BSc (Hons) degree in Forestry and Forest Products from the University of Wales in July 1997. This course included a 'sandwich' year in industry during which I worked for two companies in contrasting aspects of forestry and wood science.
The first placement was with the Institute of Terrestrial Ecology (now the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology) working with geographical information systems in the critical loads mapping project. The second placement of my sandwich year was with Trada Technology Ltd, a timber research organisation based in High Wycombe, Britain. I have also worked as a Wood Science technician for the University of Wales.
I'm supporting the MAKE POVERTY HISTORY campaign. Click on the white band to find out more.
