Reptiles

I have been fortunate to work in some amazing parts of the world full of incredible, yet surprisingly poorly known, biodiversity. Although I have only an amateur interest in reptiles, by keeping my eyes open I have come across two new species to science (which I have described with colleagues who really know about these things).

The gecko Bavayia madjo was found on an expedition to New Caledonia (see here for a link to the expedition report) and was described in collaboration with Ross Sadlier and Aaron Bauer (see here for a link to the description).

I found the snake Liophidium "Kirindy" when I was teaching on a Tropical Biology Association field course in the western dry forests of Madagascar. It appears in the latest version of the Fieldguide to the Reptiles and Amphibians of Madagascar by Frank Glaw and Miguel Vences and a full description will be published soon.
