Description of Hydrodynastes
melanogigas
Franco et al. (2007) describe a new species of Hydrodynastes from the state
of Tocantins, Central Brazil. The new species differs from H. gigas and H. bicinctus primarily through its
melanism, the lack of a postocular stripe and ventral coloration. Like
the other species of the genus, it is a large (~2 metres), semi-aquatic
snake.
