Description of Calliophis haematoetron

Smith et al. (2008) described a new species of coral snake, Calliophis haematoetron from central Sri Lanka. The new species differs from Calliophis melanurus in coloration (reduced head pigmentation, banding on dorsum and aspects of head scalation.  The new species has been recorded from forested localities at low and intermediate altitudes in Central Province, Sri Lanka.
