Atheris hirsuta
Ernst & Rödel (2002) describe a new species of Atheris, A. hirsuta, from the Taï National Park in Côte d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast), West Africa. The new species is most similar to Atheris squamigera, from which it differs in having elongate, erect dorsal scales on the anterior body, which are somewhat reminiscent of those found in A. hispida. It differs from the sympatric A. chlorechis in a number of scalation features, including the arrangement of suprarostral scales and a lower number of midbody dorsal scale rows.
