MAIL MENU MY HOME PAGE Cyndis' Movies REVIEWS VIDEOS FEATURES TELEVISION SOUNDTRACKS DOWNLOADS

In the Beginning there was music video. Cyndi Lauper showed from the start that she had screen presence, Her movie career may be unimpressive but her TV appearances went from strength to strength. Cyndi guest-starred twice on the hit show 'Mad about you' (starring Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt.) and was nominated twice for an Emmy award.

Cyndi later completed another two shows, including the final episode of the show.

Talk of her own show has since disappeared due to personnel changes in the NBC network. Incidently Cyndi won an Emmy award for her second appearance in the aptly titled episode 'Money changes everything'. (The title of a track on her massive debut album in 1983. 'She's so unusual')

However it's surprising to me that she is no longer to have her own sitcom as her acting talent was on display right from the off.......

The video for Cyndis' debut single was more than just a pop video. A cast of characters were assembled to depict the life of a girl who just........., well you know what comes next, what results is a mini musical.

The video opens with Cyndi's mother sitting at the dinner table wondering where her daughter is whilst Cyn is out dancing in the street. After first rowing with her mother and then wrestling with her father, the video turns into something resembling 'Grease' or 'Fame' .

After doing the Conga through the streets her ever growing group of friends end up back at the house to dance the night away.

"I always dreamed of a medium that I could do everything I do, and I actually got that."

-Cyndi talking about video.

The movie theme continues in the video for 'true colors' which opens with Cyndi watching an old movie, then going on to depict a story of highs and lows within a relationship and ends with a goodbye scene at a train station.

I think this set the scene for Cyndi's future appearances in front of the cameras. Having shown a natural talent she was courted by many movie makers before finally accepting her first movie project, 'Vibes'.

In 1988 Cyndi starred alongside Jeff Goldblum, Julian Sands and the terrific Peter Falk in Vibes a romantic comedy described as "A psychic comedy that's out of it's mind." I honestly believe this is a great film and contained all the ingredients for a hit, unfortunately that wasn't to be.

In 1990 she starred in Off and running, enough said... The one good thing to come from this movie is that she met her husband-to-be on the set. The new romance was sealed when he unexpectedly stole a kiss whilst in a lift(elevator).

Cyndi and David An article written in a British tabloid described a typical
Sunday morning in the Lauper household as resembling
'a romantic couple in an old black and white
movie.' David has his own movie career and has also
starred in commercials for a well known beer.
Who knows maybe one day someone will make
a movie of their life!

Fact:Cyndi's favorite movie is a film called 'The red shoes'

1993 saw Cyndi's third movie; a family movie starring Michael J. Fox and Nathan Lane called 'Life with Mikey.' Cyndi has only a small role in this movie It's a cutesy film which the kids will love, but again received little acclaim, although ABC-TV, New york said- "Loved it, Loved it, Loved it!"

1999 Cyndi has recently filmed a small role in a new film starring Christopher Walken called 'The opportunists' The movie was released August 12th 2000 to rave reviews.

2000 Cyndi pens a song for the movie Rugrats in Paris.

As I mentioned earlier Cyndi received an Emmy award for her performance in 'Mad about you' I don't think her acting has improved since the early days, sometimes all that's needed is being in the right place with the right script. Cyndi is trying to reach a new audience with the new film; 'The Opportunists' I initially thought that this might not be her movie break but it has been received rather well.
