............In addition to her music, Lauper has been concentrating on an acting career, which started off badly with a flop of a film called "Vibes" in 1988, but improved over the years, culminating with an Emmy for a special guest appearance on TV's "Mad About You." The colorful singer said development plans for her own sitcom on NBC have stalled with the network, but she'll continue to pursue the project on her own. She also has a small role in an independent film, "The Opportunists," which stars Christopher Walken. The movie is expected to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September. "That was again something that I wasn't looking to do," said Lauper, a native New Yorker. "It kind of came my way and my agent told me that I should go down there and do this. And I said, 'Well, this isn't a comedy.' But I read it and it was about people from Queens and I understood people from Queens because I grew up there. "The only thing that was kind of a stretch was not to fall into my own behavior. But once I started working with Christopher Walken, I just got lost in whatever he was doing and did it."

"It will probably be television, but I need to find the right people. I'd be the front guy; I'd do the visuals and the music. But I don't want a talk show or anything like that. I could never see myself just sitting and doing all the talking. That's not for me."
- Unfortunately the sit-com looks destined not to be.
